In The Past 10 Days Halifax Fire & Emergency

USPA NEWS - In the past 10 days, Halifax Regional Fire and Emergency has addressed four significant fires within the Halifax Regional Municipality, including a commercial building fire on Howe Street and a house fire on Saskatoon Drive on July 18th, a high-rise apartment fire on South Park Street on July 25th, and a three-building fire on Gaston Road on July 27th.

A fire on Gaston Road on Monday, July 27th, destroyed three connected buildings, displacing residents and a business in the area. Fortunately, all tenants were able to escape the Dartmouth blaze safely, but are now facing the challenge of recovering from the sudden loss of their homes and belongings.

Although the store owner has insurance coverage, he remains uncertain about his future actions. He stated that he is still reeling from the shock and is concerned about the well-being of his employees. The business, Namaste Indian Grocery, appears intact from the exterior. However, owner Amal Dev reported that there is minimal inventory remaining inside. He stated that his wife was present at the business when the fire commenced and notified him.

During an interview on Tuesday, Dev said, "Nobody slept last night. Nobody knows what to do because this is the first time this has happened to us. I don't know how long the procedure is going to take. They won't let us in ... they said the building is not in good condition." Dev also mentioned that he was able to enter the building briefly on Monday, and at that time, everything was underwater.

Ankush Raiqwar, a tenant, disclosed to reporters that he was at work when he received a call about the fire. During the call, I could hear the sirens. "Then I promptly rushed home... I observed multiple fire vehicles, and they were drilling holes in the roof above my room. I felt profound sadness because all of my possessions, everything, including all of my documents, were there."
